Work accidents can happen everyday. Wherever you work, outside on a construction site, indoors at an office desk, or in a restaurant and store settings, anything in the way of an accident can happen. It seems like the construction worker would be at a higher risk of being injured on a job, but it just as likely that a restaurant worker could suffer from a burn. In an office job, there is always the possibility of carpal tunnel, if the employee uses a keyboard for lengthy periods of time. There also exists several new injuries that awareness is just beginning to discover, showing that working at a computer screen can be harmful to employees. Workers in a warehouse or store always risk falls, and other injuries as well.
If you are hurt on the job, you must take care to do several things immediately. First, you need to report the accident to your supervisor as soon as it happens. Document everything that happened to cause the injury. If you were alone and no one witnesses that you were hurt while working, you need to be sure to seek medical attention at the exact time you were hurt. Call whoever you must call and get to a doctor or emergency room as soon as possible.Your employer, with all the information you have given him, will need to report the incident to their worker's compensation insurance carrier.
From this point on, an injured employee is covered for any and all medical services resulting from the accident. Accident at work compensation usually fall into three categories. First, your medical needs, including prescriptions for medications, will be met. Second, you will be paid for the work hours you miss because of the injury. This includes all the time that you need to recover, as well as any future missed work to follow-up on the injury with doctor visits. Last, worker's compensation allows for an injured worker to receive a payment based on an impairment rating of the damage that the injury left him or her to deal with for the rest of their lifes.
